Kim Kardashian Wears Two Pairs of Spanx and I Wear None

Repost of one of my favorite pieces from a former blog I had.

Okay. Kim Kardashian doesn’t always wear two pairs, but she said that she sometimes does.

When I went out a couple weeks ago with friends, I was debating between outfits. Not knowing where the night would take me, I packed three options and had a friend help me decide. I even brought along my one pair of Spanx (that I’ve had for years) incase a certain dress was chosen.

That certain dress was picked. But I didn’t wear the Spanx.

When I initially bought the dress, there were ladies in the dressing room hallway giving honest feedback to one another. Since I was shopping solo I popped out of my room for some opinions. They said that Spanx or a waist trainer would help but neither was completely necessary. It was good to hear but since I’ve had weight issues since childhood, I brought my Spanx along on the fateful day when I might wear it.

Anyway, the night that I first wore the dress was actually rather big for me because 1) I did NOT wear a body shaper and 2) the dress was NOT black. Black is my default color. I like how it looks. I feel good in it. It enhances my dark hair and is just incredibly fitting for the mood of winter.

However, it was now spring so I went out of my comfort zone and opted for a coral bodycon Guess dress. And it felt AMAZING.

I like to document my life in photos because I can look back and reminisce and smile. The thing with photos though is that they can be deceiving. I have some photos when I was wearing the dress where I think I look amazing! There are also (candid) photos when I wasn’t holding in my stomach and I thought, “maybe not wearing Spanx was a bad idea.” For examples, see the included photos.

What I got out of that night was to have fun and not worry about how others see me. If I feel good and confident, that is the most important. My girls trip to Miami was definitely a big factor in my confidence to even purchase the dress in the first place. Another factor is the rise in publicity of “plus size” models. Ashley Graham is a force to be reckoned with. Iskra Lawrence who is an #AERIEreal Role Model is absolutely stunning and constantly promotes body acceptance. I follow about half a dozen similar models on Instagram and it truly is empowering to see their success and attitudes.

Yes, I would like to be fitter but I am a work in progress. My weight fluctuates like crazy and I greatly enjoy pad thai and ice cream. I have always had issues with binge eating but from past experience I know I can lose weight if I try. What I appreciate with some changes in society’s mentality, or at least the changes I’ve had on my personal Instagram feed, is that every BODY really is beautiful. There is no reason to be ashamed of yourself if you aren’t a size two or four. I never will be and that is okay. As long as I accept where I am now, that is all I can ask of myself.

I don’t need Spanx to be beautiful.
